Maria Navarro

Maria is a Policy Advocate for the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), and works alongside CAUSE Organizers to organize tenants in the City of Oxnard. In this capacity, Maria joins tenant families in advocating for policy change at the local level. She also advocates for the creation of affordable housing in the County, and currently sits on the Board of the Housing Land Trust Ventura County. In her spare time, Maria likes to walk, bike and use public transport and think about urban planning.

I am obsessed with the idea of space and spaces. Everywhere we look, we see that spaces have been stolen, either from the hands of community or the hands of nature. This taking was done (and continues to be done) with the intent to isolate us, and make it more difficult to connect with everything around us. To counteract this hoarding of communal space, there needs to be an intentional reclaiming of space by the community. Organizations like MiniNature Reserve are exactly what we need to build connection between people and between people and nature.
